This year will be the first time Tanger Outlet in Sevierville, Tn. has started “Black Friday’” on Thanksgiving Thursday! That’s right, the doors at Tanger Outlet will be unlocked at 10 PM Thanksgiving day and will not be locked again for 24 hours! Many stores have opened for business very early in the morning on the Friday following Thanksgiving for a long time now. Tanger is, without a doubt “raising the bar”!
With the lights of Winterfest guiding the way, shoppers will no doubt take this opportunity to get a jump on the Christmas shopping season. Many dads stuffed with all the good food they could possibly hold will most likely opt out and be perfectly fine watching the end of the football game! Many moms will be perfectly content to finally break away from the day’s cooking, dishes and crowds to spend some quiet time searching the aisles for those perfect gifts.
With so much to do in and around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park area be sure you take the time and enjoy some of the other wonderful Sevierville attractions!
Have a lot of fun and be safe during this year’s holiday season!

The temps are dropping a little and not much rain if any in the forecast, so this Labor Day weekend is looking alright! I’m giving some thought to doing a little horseback riding in Gatlinburg with my sons while mom goes and jacks up the credit card! I would much rather ride through the hills than fight the crowds but that’s just me.
From shopping the sidewalk sales at Belz Outlet mall to a sweet drive over to Cherokee to watch crafts-people at work, there’s plenty to do in the Smokies!
Are you in the Christmas spirit yet? Well, you might just get that way if you visit Pigeon Forge around Labor Day weekend! The Christmas Place will be having a tent sale and this might be a great time to pick up some bargains. Drive a little further into Pigeon Forge and hit all the sales going on outside of Belz. This event starts on Thursday the 1st of Sept. and runs all the way through Monday the 5th.
If you want to take in some free, educational fun for the family, take a ride up to Cherokee on that Saturday the 3rd of Sept. Watch these fascinating artisans work their magic all day long for free! Using the same techniques their ancestors have used for hundreds of years, you can watch our Cherokee neighbors weave baskets, do woodwork, sculpting and more. Traditional Cherokee food will be available and you can buy some of the same unique crafts that you watched being finished.

Gatlinburg riding stables offer a way for the entire family to unwind after being stuck in the car for hours together. Depending on the number of kids in the car, you’ve probably heard so much of : “are we there yet?” , “I’m hungry can we get off at this exit and eat?” and “I gotta go potty!” that you’re way over due for a little quiet time. That’s when a little Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg horseback riding can come to the rescue!
With plenty of excellent mountain scenery to explore, you and yours can quickly go from getting on each others’ nerves to sharing some quiet moments that make vacations so special. With your guides leading the way through the mountain trails, each of you can take some time to just appreciate the nature that surrounds you. The interstate is now far behind as you breathe in the sweetness of the fresh mountain air, begin to rejuvenate and anticipate having no boss around for the next week or so!
Riding horses in Gatlinburg and surrounding areas has always been a favorite activity for many families visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s something folks in the larger cities usually don’t have access to, so when they come to an area like the Smokies they often can’t wait to hit the trails on horseback.
If you happen to be staying close to Pigeon Forge and want a convenient place to take the family trail riding, you should try Five Oaks Riding Stables. This 70 acre nature park is right across the Parkway from Tanger Mall in Sevierville at traffic light 13.1 and now also has ziplines in Pigeon Forge as well as their legendary riding stables.
Have a great vacation this year and explore the wonderful Smokies on horseback!

It all started 700 BC in ancient Greece with the first Olympic Games. Limited to only Greek nationals at first and no women allowed, I’m sure the games were not as exciting as the ones we are about to witness in Gatlinburg.
Ranging in age from eight to young adults, over 100 entrants will be starring on the hills of the great Smoky Mountains. If you’ve never been to a winter Special Olympics game before, you should really give this a try. These young folks train hard for a long time to make sure “they got game”! On the ice in the skating rink and on the snowy hillsides, you will see these eager young folks doing their best while Alpine skiing, ice skating and snowboarding.
I wonder if any of these participants are planning to go to the big games in Athens, Greece, in June 2011? I’m sure some would like to and you can do your part by volunteering or donating to this wonderful organization.
We are carpooling up to the mountains, four friends and myself, to watch this really cool event that we can’t always see around this area. I guess you could call it our annual “guys weekend out” as we hit the go kart tracks around Pigeon Forge then get us a cabin in the mountains. This year is going to be extra special thanks to the Special Winter Olympics!

I’m a guy so I really shouldn’t be as excited as I am, but I can’t help it; IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME (and I love to shop)! So this weekend, I’m maxing out my cards! I don’t care, I’m sick of recessions, bad economic data and all that “bah humbug”! I got sons, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and a mailman counting on me and I promise, I won’t let you down! But first, even though my house is looking like “Santa gone wild” already, I still need more Christmas stuff! Good thing I live in Sevierville because I know just the place to get what I need to fill in those last few empty corners of my home before I head out to the outlet malls…the Christmas Place! I love it there!
This time of year, I don’t know what happens to me but it turns me into a little kid! I walk in there and transform into an eight year old, it’s crazy! If you’ve never been there you really need to go. Your senses will be filled with the colors, smells and sounds of what I think is without a doubt, the best part of the year. This will be my third time to go there in the last month or so and I’ll probably be back again before Christmas!
Sorry for the short post, but I’ve talked myself right into the mood and I’m outta’ here! I’m going to call my buddy and see if he wants to meet me later for some Pigeon Forge arcade action at my other favorite place to feel young again, Lazerport! Have a merry Christmas everybody!

I was looking around Youtube last night at places to go ziplining and was shocked at what I saw! A nudist family going on a zip line tour? This can’t be! It appeared as though a family of four had ventured out to the resort city of Pigeon Forge, Tn. looking for a place to fly through the air, each one, “naked as a jaybird”!
As I began to watch, I kept trying to figure out “are they really naked”? In public?? OMG (I thought to myself) , what’s the world coming to? Upon further examination and writing the website owner I was relieved to discover it was just a way to promote their new Pigeon Forge area zip line tour in the Smoky Mountains. It turns out that all “private parts” were covered by more than just the “censored” signs and it was all just a marketing tool!
I guess sometimes it takes more than SEO, backlinks and the whole ball o’ wax to keep ahead of the competition and these young entrepreneurs will do whatever it takes!

It’s that time again and moms, in particular, are gearing up for the Christmas shopping season! While it can be a lot of fun to explore each and every store at a great place for shopping like, Tanger Mall at Five Oaks, it can be tedious for any restless teens or youngsters you have with along for the day! But I have a great idea so all have a fun time!
Right across from the street from the mall in Sevierville you will see a new landmark. It’s a zip line tower where folks from all around are getting a chance to try this exciting activity. Just drop those kids off (maybe call it an early Christmas gift) and let them spend a few hours riding the zip lines and horses! They’ll love you for it and you will have some time to concentrate on the task at hand; shopping!
Completely safe, your youngsters will be in good hands accommodated by two guides on every line and attached to not one but TWO zip line cables designed to keep people safe while having fun. The trail rides at Adventure Park of Five Oaks also have guides. The kids will get to see the mountains on horseback and view the entire Smokies from a really cool ride. Ask about their “combo-package” and you’ll get a discount for each person too.
Check out their Pigeon Forge zip line and riding stables web page and learn more. I have also included another link if you would like to see other Pigeon Forge attractions and options available for mom to have a free day filled with shopping! Have fun mom!

The owners of Lazerport Fun Center in Pigeon Forge have decided it was time to offer family fun in Pigeon Forge 365 days a year. In the past, if you found yourself in this Great Smoky mountains resort town during the winter off-season, you could drive down all of Dolly Parton Parkway and find nothing to do. That will all change beginning this year at the popular Pigeon Forge attraction known as Lazerport.
While there will still be days when operating hours are shorter than usual due to snow covered roads, their plans are to be open every day. On the weekends you can count on their go karts, arcade, lasertag arenas, indoor black light mini-golf and 4D theater to be open between 10 am and 10 pm. Throughout the rest of the week, Monday through Thursday, hours might be limited due to weather so they encourage you to call ahead just to be sure. If there is a lot of snow on the roads or temperatures are extremely low, the fun might be limited to just the indoor activities so if you have your heart set on racing go karts be sure to call ahead at 865-453-8400.
Finding a Pigeon Forge track open year round will become more likely because of this announcement and with all their other fun activities, having fun in Pigeon Forge is now possible 365 days a year!

Every year at this time mother nature sets the stage and puts on one of the best shows in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville absolutely free! Just like clockwork, cars bearing license plates from all around the country start making their way to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see this awesome display of natural colors. This area is perfect for the many people that enjoy viewing, photographing or just being out among the colorful backdrop of Autumn. With over 100 different species of trees living throughout these mountains, the array of colors is phenomenal!

Since the shows are free, what about seeing them like you never have before? I know a place conveniently located right across from Tanger Outlet Mall at Five Oaks that will let you see the mountains while taking a horseback ride or zip line tour. Adventure Park at Five Oaks sits on a gorgeous, seventy acre nature park complete with a mountain lake! While the riding stables have been there for quite a while, the zip lines are just several months old. If you’ve never tried zip-lining or horseback riding, this weekend would be a perfect time to start! Weather forecasters are saying that temps will be in the upper 70s to low 80s and no rain for the foreseeable future so gather up some family and friends and make your way to traffic light 13.1 in Sevierville for a day that will truly be; picture-perfect!
